Thomas E. was the 2nd husband of Mary Frances Hughes Maddix. She was a widower with six small children when they married. He was a truck driver.
He was 37 years old when he completed the WWI Draft Registration card on Sept. 12 1918. He was a laborer at Gulf States Steel Co.,in Gadsden AL. His nearest relative was his wife, Mrs. Mary Bowling and they lived on Industrial Ave in Alabama City. He had blue eyes and gray hair.
He was killed in an electrical incident in Gadsden.

Excerpted from "The Gadsden Times:
"One of the victims, T. E. Bowling, an employee of the power company was off duty for Labor Day and had been sitting on his porch. Before his death, he had rushed to the scene and warned the crowd to stand back because the current might come on again. Bowling was killed by the second lightning flash."
