Beverly J. Barnes Beatty-Brodis, 75, affectionately known as "Sissy" to her friends and family, and "Mommy Bev" to her grandchildren, departed this life on Saturday, August 13, 2005, at Memorial Hospital.

She was born on March 17, 1930, in York, to the late Francis J. and Regina E. (Jacobs) Barnes of York.

Beverly received her formal education in the York City School District. She has a degree in accounting from Wayne County Community College in Detroit, Mich., where she lived and worked for Citizens For Better Care. She retired in 1997 and moved back to York. During her childhood and early adult years, Beverly was a member of Faith Presbyterian, which later merged with First Presbyterian of York. Later, Beverly became a member of Shiloh Baptist Church.

In 1945, Beverly was married to the late Harold R. Beatty, Sr. From this union, seven children were born, Harold R. Beatty, Jr., Karen D. Smallwood, Susan C. Beatty-Palmer, Beverly B. Wilson, Cathy A. Banks, and Robyn E. Beatty-Smith, all of York, and Keith C. Beatty, Sr., of Phoenix, Ariz.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Isabella M. Beatty; and a brother, Francis J. Barnes, Jr., of York.

Later, she was married to Harry Brodis, who died August 1, 1998. Beverly's spirit is carried on by her sister, Beatrice Covington of Reading; a sister-in-law, Tsuyako Barnes of York; four cousins, Jean Johnson of Frederick, Md., Leonard Palmer of York, Shirley Chapman of York, and Richard Jacobs of California.

In addition to her children, she has six stepchildren, John Davis of Detroit, Mich., and Barton A. Beatty, Sr., Lorrie L. "Oak" Beatty, Isabell Smith, Holly R. Beatty, and Conrad L. Beatty, all of York. Beverly is also survived by 30 grandchildren, 22 step-grandchildren, 83 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and a special lifelong friend, Doris Gilbert of York.

A viewing will be held Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the John W. Keffer Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 902 Mt. Rose Ave., York, and Thursday from 9 to 11 a.m. at Maranatha Church of God in Christ, 116 S. West St., on the corner of West and King Sts. in York. The funeral will follow Thursday's viewing with the Rev. Dr. Aaron Wilford officiating.

Burial will be in Lebanon Cemetery.

Her hands are folded now to rest, hushed are those lips so pure, her spirit now among the blessed, no pain or sorrow to endure.
