FUNERAL OF OM CADWELL
Passed away at the home of his daughter last Tuesday
The funeral of Orson M Cadwell, who passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs Rufus J Hyde, last Tuesday afternoon, took place yesterday morning at 10 O'clock from the Hyde home, Rev John Clahin officiating. Internment in Rosehill Cemetery.
Mr Cadwell was 82 years of age and along in the eighties was one of the prominent business men of this town, his initial business venture here being in company with the late HC Whittum the firm of Whittum & Cadwell having moved its sawmill industry to Eaton Rapids from Brookfield, and set it up on West Broad St, where it was kept in operation for a number of years, Mr Cadwell finally taking over Mr Whittums interest in the business, and later taking in FN McCullough of Chicago as a partner. After conducting the business for a year or so, Mr Cadwell bought Mr McCulloughs interest in the sawmill and hard wood lumber enterprise and took his son EB Cadwell in as a partner, after which the business was conducted under the name OM Cadwell & Son until it was discontinued about 20 years ago.
Some time after retiring from active business life in Eaton Rapids, the family lived in Chicago for a time and later went to Sierra Madre, CA, where they have since resided. Mrs Cadwell has been confined to her home in California, by illness, for a long time and was not able to come to this city during her husbands illness.
Mr Cadwell came east last fall for a visit with his children and grandchildren, and the long trip together with infirmities of old age, weakened his physical condition to a point where he had not the strength to recuperate, and continued to fail until the end came. During his illness, Mr Cadwell was tenderly cared for at the home of Dr & Mrs RJ Hyde, where he spent the greater portion of the time since coming here from the Pacific Coast. Deceased is survived by a wife and 3 children. The children are EB Cadwell of New York, Mrs Martha Rust who is with her invalid mother in California, and Mrs Laura Hyde of this city.
Mr Cadwell had an extensive acquaintance throughout Eaton County, and was held in high esteem by a wide circle of friends.
