Services for Virginia Anson Shanvall, 86, daughter of Adrian "Cap" Anson, legendary Chicago Cubs third baseman and manager, will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the chapel at 10525 S. Western Ave. Mrs. Shanvall died Saturday in a hospital in Venice, Fla. Mrs. Shanvall, a longtime South Side resident, moved to Venice 1/2 years ago. In April, 1976, Mrs. Shanvall threw out the first ball at the Cubs' home opener marking the 100th anniversary of the team, which was known as the Chicago White Stockings in Anson's time. Anson played in the team's first game April 25, 1876, and managed the team to five pennants. Anson, who died in 1922, also was credited with introducing ''Take Me Out to the Ball Game'' to the public. Mrs. Shanvall is survived by a daughter, Virginia Sherwood; five grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and a great-great grandchild.
