Early Dawn Van Patten, 79, of What Cheer, died Feb 19 at her home. Funeral services were Feb 21 at the Harden Funeral Chapel in What Cheer with the Rev Frances Baumert of the What Cheer Christian Church officiating. Interment followed at the Sixteen Cemetery near Thornburg. Pallbearers were Jason, Chris and Gary Jo Van Patten, and Leo Wehr, Bryan Rogers and Scott Rogers. Honorary pallbearers were Dean, James and Wayne Van Patten, Gina Crop and Sonya Wehr. Early Dawn was born 9 Jul 1921 in What Cheer d/o Glen & Blanche McSpadden Dawson. She was educated at the What Cheer schools and enjoyed attending the What Cheer Christian Church as a girl.ON 19 Jun 1937 Early Dawn was united in marriage to Roy Van Patten in Oskaloosa. Her one enjoyment in life was to love and nurture her husband and children. Early Dawn also liked to do gardening. Early Dawn's memory is honored by her two sons and their wives; James I. and Virginia Van Patten of Madera, CA, and Gary L. and Sandy Van Patten of What Cheer; her two daughters, Donna S. and her husband Leroy Rogers of What Cheer, and Linda Rapp of What Cheer; a brother, Harold Wells and his wife Margaret of Newton; 10 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Roy, an infant son, Alfred J. Van Patten; three sisters, Helen Bryan, Leverta Claypool, and Agnes Rodene; one brother, Darman Dawson, and a son-in-law,John Rapp.
