J. M. Renner, one of the early residents of Douglas county, died Sunday morning at his home in Alexandria at the age of 89 years. He had been engaged in business in Alexandria for many years, retiring about 1936 when he sold his plumbing business to Smith & Moen who have since sold the business to Home Service & Supply Co.
Funeral services will be held at St. Mary's church Wednesday morning. Anderson Fuenral home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Renner was born in Germany on Oct. 12, 1859, and came to this country when a young man. He first worked in coal mines at Pittsburgh, Pa., before coming to Douglas county. He resided at Millerville for a number of years, being engaged in the well drilling business. Following his marriage to Anna Hockert at Millerville on May 26, 1885, they moved immediately to Alexandria and have resided in this city since that time.
Besides his widow, he is survived by one son, Fr. William A. Renner, of Alexandria. Two sons, Michael and Joseph, and one daughter, Mrs. J. T. Flanigan, preceded him in death. Other survivors include two brothers, Henry G. of Grand Forks and Andrew F. of Pelican Rapids, and one sister, Mrs. Barbara Hanley, of St. Paul. There also are 10 surviving grandchildren.
