Jacob Butts was born Dec. 7, 1838 in Erie Co., PA. His family moved to Ohio after he was born. In the early 1860's he came to Michigan. He moved to Fork Twp. in 1868 and was one of the early settlers in the area. In 1865 he married Jospehine Cleveland in Canton, Wayne Co., Michigan. He died Mar. 12, 1924. Children: Florence, Addison, Lillian, William, Fred, and George. He had two brothers: A.K. Butts and Charles Butts.
Josephine Butts was the daughter of Avery Cleveland and Electa Judson. She was born in Ohio ca 1844. She was living with her parents in 1850 and 1860 in Canton Twp., Wayne Co. Michigan. In 1870 Josephine, her husband Jacob and son Addison Butts were living with Josephine's parents in Sauk Centre, Stearns Co. Minnesota. Jacob and Josephine's daughter Florence Bell Butts is buried in Cherry Hill Cemetery, Canton Twp., Michigan. Gravestone shows she died 4 Oct. 1867.
