6th Earl of Carnarvon. British peer, the son of George Herbert, 5th Earl of Carnarvon and Almina Wombwell and Almina Victoria Marie Alexandra Wombwell. He married, firstly, Anne Catherine Tredick Wendell, daughter of Jacob Wendall. He married, secondly, Ottilie Ethel Losch, daughter of Eugene Losch. He was educated at Eton College and at Royal Military College, Sandhurst. He fought in the First World War and gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the service of the 7th Hussars. He succeeded to the title of 6th Earl of The Town and County of Carnarvon on 5 April 1923 and succeeded to the title of 6th Baron Porchester of Highclere, on 5 April 1923. He fought in the Second World War. He held the office of High Steward of Newbury and was decorated with the award of U.S. Bronze Star.
