Emma Fern Hetrick, of Wichita, Kansas (formerly of Wellington, Kansas), homemaker, died Tuesday, December 30, 2008 at Homestead Health Center in Wichita, Kansas at the age of 82.

Emma Fern was born the daughter of Loyal M. and Leona (Blunck) Gaskill on Wednesday, March 3, 1926 in Wellington, Kansas.

On November 26, 1944, Emma Fern and Kenneth Hetrick were united in marriage in Wellington, Kansas. Together they celebrated nearly 52 years of marriage. Her husband preceded her in death on September 17, 1996.

Emma Fern was a long time member at Central Baptist Church in Great Bend, Kansas where she was active in teaching Sunday school and Vacation Bible School for many years before moving in early 2002 to Prairie Homestead in Wichita, Kansas.

Survivors include her sons; Michael Hetrick and his wife Martha of Ocean Isle Beach, North Carolina, Kenneth Hetrick and his wife Lindy of Carlsbad, California, Monte Hetrick and his wife Debbie of Stillwater, Oklahoma, brother, Loyal Wayne Gaskill of Wellington, Kansas, sisters; Betty Jean Gressel of South Haven, Kansas, Mary Lee King and her husband Jimmy of Wellington, Kansas, Ada Marie Baker of Wellington, Kansas, Vera Maxine Baker and her husband John of Mayfield, Kansas, Naomi Ruth Crossley and her husband Gayln of Oakley, Kansas, grandchildren; Erica Hetrick of Charlotte, North Carolina, Chris Hetrick of Carlsbad, California, Kylie Shellstrom of Carlsbad, California, Chad Hetrick of Arlington, Virginia, great-grandson, Stavros Hetrick of Carlsbad, California.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., Monday, January 5, 2009.

Funeral services for Emma will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 6, 2009 in the chapel of Day Funeral Home with Reverend Bill Shook officiating.

Interment will follow in Prairie Lawn Cemetery, Wellington, Kansas.

A memorial has been established in her loving memory with Hospice Care of Kansas, 808 South Hillside, Wichita, Kansas 67211. Contributions can be mailed or left with the funeral home.
