Journalist and author: Born a slave, Victoria would become a reporter and authored several books. After the death of her 16 year old son Lamartine she became dedicated to young people, creating the Woman's Loyal Union and the Federation of African American Women, which merged with the National Colored Women's League, a founding organization of the National Urban League. Victoria founded the White Rose Mission that offered a social center, shelter, and protection for young African American women.
