Raised in Richmond, VA, she was a longtime resident of Washington, D.C. She graduated from the Virginia Union College and began teaching high school. She retired in 1986 from the U.S. Department of Interior with 22 years of service. She married Dr. Ernest E. Neal, who preceded her in death in 1964.
Survivors include daughter, Kathleen Neal Cleaver of Georgia; grandchildren, Maceo & Joju Cleaver, and 11 great-grandchildren.
