Mrs. Bird Johnson Dangerously Ill of Spinal Meningitis.
Mrs. Laura Bird Johnson, wife of D.M. Johnson, 734 South Water street, is dangerously ill from septic spinal meningitis at the Wichita Hospital, where she was taken Monday morning. Mrs. Johnson has been ill since Easter but had not been confined to her bed until Monday.
Mrs. Laura Bird Johnson is the mother of Congressman Richard E. Bird, who is on his way home from Washington D.C., Mrs. Charles Keach of Providence, R.I., and Theodore Bird of Scranton, Pa. Mrs. Keach and Theodore Bird, also have been called home. Nicholas Bird of this city is her nephew.
Mrs. Johnson is nearly 70 years of age. She is a member of the First Methodist church and has been one of the most active workers in that church for many years, both as a Sunday school teacher and in charge of a large bible class in addition to her other activities in the church work. Her illness began with an abscess in her head and has terminated in a very dangerous case of spinal meningitis.
