Illness Claims Matron, 65; S. L. Rites Set
Mrs. Mattie Hardman Smith, 65, 569 W. 1st North, died after a lingering illness Saturday at 9:35 a.m. in a Salt Lake hospital. She was the mother of Eugene Smith, pressman for the Salt Lake Tribune – Telegram.
Mrs. Smith was born June 8, 1881, in Salt Lake City, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Abraham Hardman. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Survivors include her husband, Sydney J. Smith, Salt Lake City; two sons, Eugene Smith, Salt Lake City, and Raymond Smith, Log Angeles; two brothers, Edward and David Hardman, Pleasant Grove; two sisters, Mrs. Sarah M. Ashton, and Mrs. Minnie Thompson, both of Salt Lake City.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 11 a.m. at 36 E. 7th South where friends may call until time of services. Burial will be in Pleasant Grove cemetery.
