"A Full Circle"
Virgina Lee Spalding was called home to her Lord on her 85th birthday surrounded by her family and friends. She lived in La Porte for many years before becoming a resident of Fort Collins Healthcare Center for the past two years.
Virginia was born in Seibert, CO to Herman and Emilie Salzman. Her early years were spent on farms in Seibert, Bayard and Kimball, NE. These years always kept her a "small town girl" no matter where she lived.
After graduating from Kimball High School she moved to Denver where she met the love of her life, Raymond, who was stationed at Buckley Field. They married October 29, 1943 and shared many happy years together until Ray's death in 1978. They moved to California in 1948 to care for Ray's mother and remained there until they moved back to Colorado in 1977. No matter where she lived she was a Colorado girl and was always proud of her farming roots.
Virginia was a world traveler and never missed an opportunity to learn from her surroundings. She spent many years as a member of the Delta Chi Sigma sorority and served as the International Organizer. Her dedication help build the sorority into an international group.
She visited Japan several times and began to learn to speak and write Japanese in her 70s. She loved Hawaii and spent many happy times there with Ray and her family.
Virginia served as a volunteer at the Fort Collins Museum and was honored with an award as a Volunteer Emeritus for her many hours of dedicated service.
Virginia is survived by her son, Robert (Paula) of San Dimas, CA and four grandchildren, Carrie Ank (Tom) of Astoria, OR along with their children Maddie, Abby and Ben, Brandon (Jennifer) of Fontana and Noah, Brianne of San Dimas and Jordan Ranaudo and Holly Dague (Steven) of Montclair and Peyton Elizabeth due to arrive in November.
The family would like to thank the staff of Fort Collins Healthcare Center for their compassionate care and attention during Virginia's residence and especially during her last days.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00pm Monday, August 25th at Allnut Funeral Service located at 650 West Drake Road, Fort Collins with committal to be held at 9:00am Tuesday August 26th at Roselawn Cemetery.
