Raymond Warren Spalding was born in Alhambra, CA to Joseph Warren Spaulding and Ruth (Lamb) Spaulding on November 6, 1916.
At a young age, his father relocated the family to Hackberry, AZ so he could prospect. After that time the family returned to Duarte, CA where Ruth would live until her death in 1948.
Ray enlisted in the Army Air Corps at the start of 1942 and was stationed in Denver, CO at Buckley Field. It was there that he met the love of his life, Virginia Lee Salzman, who worked in the PX. The family tale goes the Sgt Spalding went into the PX commissary area and sat in a booth and put his foot on the seat. When Virginia arrived at the booth she asked him to take his foot off the seat and when he didn't she took off his shoe and poured coffee into it. They were married almost 36 years prior to Ray's death.
Ray served his overseas duty in Panama during WWII.
Ray and Virginia lived in Duarte, CA from 1948 until 1977 when they sold their house and moved to Fort Collins, CO to be closer to family. They resided with Virginia's sister and children until Ray passed away.
Ray is survived by his wife, Virginia, son Robert (Paula) of Alhambra and their son, Brandon. He is also survived by many other family members in the Fort Collins area.
Raymond was buried at Roselawn Cemetery next to his in-laws, Herman and Emily Salzman.
NOTE: The change in spelling of Raymond's name came about in 1948 when his mother passed away and he found documents that showed their last name had a "U" in it and he had not spelled it that way so he went to court and had it legally changed.
