Alice was bon in 1903 in Corona, Alabama, the 11th of 16 children, the daughter of Thomas Jefferson Atteberry and Malissa Evylign Johnston. She married Grover Carter Jan. 12, 1924 in Jasper, Alabama. She used to like to say that she had three children, Chris, Joyce and Fred, each one born in one of the three States beginning with an "A"; Alabama, Arizona and Arkansas (that was before Alaska had become a State!) and ten grandchildren, nine of whom lived. She was a gifted seamtress and could look at someone and sew something that fit perfectly without needing a pattern. When we were little, she used to make all our pjs: long gowns with lots of lace the granddaughters loved. Her potato salad and potato soup recipies have been handed down to later generations. She loved children and was crazy about her grandchildren and greatgrandchildren. She passed away on Christmas Eve in 1980 in Phoenix, Arizona.
