Funeral services for Nelle Hardt, 81, of Portales will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 26, 2009, at the Wheeler Mortuary Chapel with Dr. David McFadden officiating. Burial will follow in Portales Cemetery with Jeff Hardt, Erich Hardt, Brenton White, Kendal Hardt, Brady Hardt and Chaney Hardt serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be all friends and family.

Nelle was born June 5, 1927, in Longs Community to Tom Edgar and Martha Dora (Vincent) Haislip and passed away May 22, 2009, in Clovis. Nelle attended school in Longs and graduated from Causey and attended Eastern New Mexico University. She also attended Cosmetology school in Roswell where she became a certified Cosmetologist. She married Emil G. Hardt on November 20, 1949, in Portales. Nelle worked on the family farms and ranched alongside of Emil doing whatever she needed to do from driving a tractor and tending to cattle but most important she was a wonderful cook and homemaker.

All the while being a mother to 5 children. She lived in the Eastern New Mexico area all her life except for a brief time in Texas. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and very involved in Sunday School.

Nelle is survived by her husband, Emil of the home; three sons, Dwayne and Delores Hardt of Portales, Bill and Janet Hardt of Roswell, Tracy and Tammy Hardt of Artesia; and two daughters, Peggy and Jim Kerby of Portales, and Kathy and Dan White of Wichita Falls, Texas. She is survived by 14 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Ida Mae Whitworth of Albuquerque, and Tommie Bennett of Causey.

Nelle was preceded in death by her parents; and two sisters, Marjorie See field and Wanda Sturman.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Baptist Children's Home or the New Mexico Christian Children's Home.
