Mr. Hendricks was born on Feb. 16, 1921, in Buncombe County, the son of the late Sidney Faith Hendrix and Sally (Pursley) Hendrix Evans. He spent most of his life in Buncombe County and graduated from Canton High School. Mr. Hendricks served during World War II in the 23rd Company, Special Troop, Sig. Corp. US Army in Europe. He was retired from Sayles-Biltmore Bleacheries in 1983. He was a member of Oakley Baptist Church. He rebuilt radios and was a longtime Ham Radio Operator. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Golda (Snelson) Hendricks; sisters, Charlotte and Ruby; and grandson, Randy Hendricks. Mr. Hendricks was a good father and will be missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife, Eula (Bradley) Cotton Hendricks of the home; his children, Sidney R. Hendricks and his wife, Beverly, of Fletcher, Phyllis H. Messer and her husband, James Lee, of Waynesville, Phillip Bruce Hendricks of Etowah and Susan H. Shipman and her husband, Charles Sr., of Asheville; stepson, Leon James Cotton of Asheville; brothers, Robert E. Hendrix of Low Gap and Alvin Hendrix of Travelers Rest, S.C.; sister, Christine H. Woody of Canton; 10 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held in the chapel of Williams Funeral Service with the Rev. Kyle Shipman officiating. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery with military honors.
