Mrs. Dona Sue Curry, age 85 years, 4 months and 25 days, beloved Mother, sister and Mimi passed away Sunday, May 24, 2009, at her home in Crockett, surrounded by her loved ones. Mrs. Curry was born on December 29, 1923 in Kennard, Texas to Charles Lovelace and Minnie Steed who preceded her in death.

Also preceding was her beloved husband of 57 years, Shellie A. Curry Jr.; two brothers Cloyce Steed and Marcus Steed; two sisters Mozelle Warren and Margaret Williams; two daughters-in-law Hager Morton and Louise Curry; and two Grandsons Scott Rudd and Baby Boy Morton. Besides being a wife and homemaker, she worked as a bookkeeper and stenographer for 42 years. She was just 14 years old when she first accepted Christ as her savior. She has been a devout Baptist and has been a member of the Baptist churches where she resided. For the past 24 years, she has been a member of the First Baptist Church of Crockett. She has taught Sunday school for 30 years and was an avid Bible scholar and teacher. She read and studied the Bible daily and was a source of inspiration to all that knew her. She had also been an active member of several organizations including the Daughters of The Republic of Texas, where she served as Chaplain, and, the Daughters of the American Revolution. Mrs. Curry and her husband Shellie served as Worthy Matron and Worthy Patron of Crockett Chapter #509 Order of the Eastern Star, during the years of 1967-1968 and 1982-1983. Mrs. Curry loved and appreciated her bridge games with friends, and her association with a local cancer support group. She will be missed dearly by her family and her community.

Survivors include her four sons and two daughters-in-law Billy Rex Rudd, of Crockett, Charles R. "Bobby" Morton and wife Betty, of Waco, Richard Mark Curry, of Crockett, and Shellie Curry, III and wife Amy Caplan, of Towson Md.; three brothers and sisters-in-law Mack and Dee Steed, Ray and Hudell Steed, all of Kennard and Lacy and Theresa Steed, of Conroe; one sister JoAnne Holcomb, of Crockett; one sister-in-law Lillian Steed, of Lufkin; grandchildren Daniel Rudd, Mark Curry, Luke Morton, Monique Curry and Alton Curry; great-grandchildren Marissa Land, Avery, Nicholas and Preston Rudd, Rori Holcomb, and Melody Ella Claire Morton; many nieces and nephews. Funeral Services for Mrs. Dona Sue Curry were held Wednesday, May 27, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. in the First Baptist Church in Crockett with the Rev. Keeney Dickenson officiating. Interment followed in the Corinth Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to the Cancer Support Group of Houston County C/O of First Community Bank P.O. Box 172, Crockett, TX. 75835.
