William Streit "Bill" Dickinson Jr., was born at Hollywood Farm in Stafford County, Va. He was the second child and first son of William S. Sr. & Maria (Pronounced Ma-rye-ya) Christine (Duval) Dickinson. In 1920, his father purchased a farm in Fredericksburg, Va., and entered the dairy business, raising registered Golden Guernseys.

William and his brothers helped out at the farm and went to local schools. After high school he went to VPI (Virginia Polytechnic Institute). While there he married his 1st wife, Helen Elizabeth "Libby" Allen 3 July 1937. That marriage was annuled. There were no children of the marriage.

In 1941 he met Elizabeth Wattson "Betty" Thompson (daughter of Rufus S. & Mabel Claire (Higgins) Thompson). The two were married on 15 June 1941. The two had two daughters, Elizabeth Anne (1942, died shortly after birth) and Sharon Jean "Sherry" 1946.

Towards the end of World War II, Bill entered the Merchant Marines. After the war, he had several jobs including working for E.F. Drew and Company.

In 1951 he transferred to California and continued to work for the company there.

Around that same year, he helped to form the Concord Optimist Organization. (Years later he became Lt. Gov. of the California Optimist Club)

Several years later he took a position at Lawrence Radiation Laboratories in Livermore, CA. as a Mechanical Engineer.

He and Betty were divorced in 1959.

After leaving Lawrence Radiation Laboratories, along with several partners he started a cable television business called Dickinson Communications And Associates (DCAA).

He married in 1960 Margaret Catherine "Peggy" Hendry. He continued to live in Concord until the late 1990's when he moved to a condo in Pleasant Hill, Ca.

He died of liver failure shortly after surgery which confirmed pancreatic cancer, possibly do to exposure in in the engine room of ships during WWII or at the Lawrence Radiation Laboratories.
