WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Jean F. Bowers Kauffman, 78, a resident of Quincy United Methodist Home, and formerly of Fairview Avenue, Waynesboro, died Saturday, Oct. 18, 2008, at the nursing home.
Born Feb. 11, 1930, in Chambersburg, she was the daughter of the late Charles R. Bowers Sr. and Margaret Hade Bowers.
She was a 1948 graduate of Chambersburg High School.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald E. Kauffman Sr., whom she married May 29, 1948, in Hagerstown. He died Oct. 13, 1996.
She worked as head cashier and bookkeeper for Super Thrift Supermarket from 1964 until her retirement in 2000.
She helped start the Waynesboro School District Crossing Guards.
She is survived by one son, Donald E. Kauffman Jr. of Waynesboro; one grandson, Jason Kauffman of Waynesboro; two great-grandsons; one sister, Ruth B. Claudy of Chambersburg; and a number of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one sister, M.M. "Peg" Strock; and two brothers, Charles R. Bowers Jr. and Jack F. Bowers.
Services will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, Waynesboro. Pastor David W. Bowers and the Rev. Walter A. Stuart will officiate. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
