ALLEN A. BEROTH, the second son and third child of Jacob and Susan (Snyder) Beroth, was born in Harrison County, Indiana, September 16, 1833, and when three years old came with his parents to Wabash County. Two years afterward his father died and from that time until he had reached his majority he worked on the farm, and in this way assisted in supporting his mother's family.
At twenty-one he began to learn the wagon-maker's trade and is still engaged in that busienss. Although at one time he felt the pressure of the money panic, he has recovered from these reverses and is now doing a fairly successful business.
In 1859 he married Miss Catherine Lutz, of Wabash, who died in 1865. In 1868, he married Miss Mary Stitt of Lawrence County, Pena. He is the father of four children, one by his first wife, and three by the second.
He is a man of great firmness of character, honest and industrious. He is now a member of the firm of Shiles, Wheeler & Co., and is serving his second term as a member of the City Council. Mr. Beroth's grandparents were probably of Dutch descent, having come from Holland in an early day and settled in North Carolina. His father and mother both died in this county, the former in 1838 and the latter in 1879. There were six children in the family, four of whom are now living -- Henry C., Allen A., and Jacob in Wabash, and James in Warsaw, Ind.
