Margaret was the third of thirteen children born to Jasper and Elizabeth Halferty. She married Lawrence Glen Peterson on 29 Dec 1915. The had four children: Pauline, Frederick, Harold and Ruth.

After the death of Lawrence, Margaret married Harry W. Viceroy on 9 Apr 1929. Two children, Harry and Rhena, were born of that union.
