Alma stood 5'2" tall and had blue eyes and dark hair. She was known for her beautiful smile and sweet disposition. Alma was named for her maternal aunt, Alma Reed (they were born on the same day), and her maternal grandmother, Lucretia Tiffany. According to family tradition, as a young woman she had prepared the food and decorated a box for a box supper to be auctioned (an old-fashioned fund-raiser for churches where the boxes were donated and then bid on; the highest bidder then getting the privilege of eating dinner with the girl who had made the supper). There were several bidding on Alma Reed's box, but none went above the $5 that Harry Early offered (a handsome sum in 1920). They were later married 23 DEC 1920 and had two children: Ione Jeannette and Kenneth Eugene. Sadly, she died unexpectedly from pregnancy complications at age 30.
