Obituary:
Gustave Alexander Schmidt, better known as "Gus", was born July 10, 1899 at Elmont, MO to William Gustave Schmidt and Virginia Frances Renick Schmidt. He attended Japan Public School and Sullivan High School. He was married to Alla M. Bell on November 15, 1921, who preceded him in death on July 16, 1943. Two children were born to this union: LaRue O'Dean and William Merle. He was baptized in the Pentacostal Faith at the age of 19. He started the Schmidt Trucking business in Gerald, from there to Centralia, in 1947, where he owned and operated his business until moving to Colorado in December, 1964 when he semi-retired. He married Jewell Suddarth in Ft. Collins, Colorado on November 10, 1964. Survivors are: his wife, Jewell of the home; a son, William of the home; a daughter, LaRue Bakke, son-in-law Burt Bakke, grandsons Nayles, Noyes and Skip Bakke, all of Macon, MO; a step-son, Louis M. Suddarth of Rock Springs, Wyoming; a step-daughter, Linda M. McFann, two step-granddaughters, Lana and Paula Peterson of Fort Collins; a brother-inaw, Houston Bell of Sullivan; and a sister-in-law, Martha Morton of Loveland, Colorado. Funeral services were held Sunday, Nov 9 at Eaton Funeral Home with Rev. Floyd Heady officiating. Interment was in Lockhart Cemetery,. Rt. 1, Sullivan.
