He was born Sept. 9, 1920, in McLean County, the son of Herman F. and Martha Bustle Gronewold. He married Mary F. Jordan in 1945 in Springfield; she died in 2005.
Mr. Gronewold was a U.S. Coast Guard veteran of World War II, serving from 1941-45. He was a member of St. Bernard's Catholic Church.
Survivors: daughter, Judy (husband, Dick) Brown of Avon; son, Mike (wife, Patty) Gronewold of Petersburg; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and brother, John Gronewold of Spaulding.
