FUNERAL SERVICES HELD AT GOODWIN FUNERAL HOME
Clifton Young Curtis, age, 68, retired Trigg County farmer died Sunday, June 8, at Trigg County Hospital. He had been in decling health for the past four years, his condition became critical the latter part of last week and he was admitted to the hospital early Saturday morning.
A lifelong resident of this county, Mr. Curtis was born September 2, 1889, the son of Simon *(unable to read last letter) (listed as "Sinsun?" in 1870 Trigg County Census), and Artie Mae Welker Curtis. He was a member of the Rocky Ridge Baptist Church. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, June 10, at 2 p.m. at the Goodwin Funeral with his pastor, the Rev. L.L. Spurlin officiating. The New Hope Quartet was in charge of the music service.
Burial was in the Stewart Cemetery in Trigg County.
The survivors include his wife, Mrs. Emma Jackson Curtis, mother, Mrs. Artie King, Hopkinsville: three sons,William "Will Henry" Henry Curtis, Trigg County, Frank and Dell Curtis, Hammond, Ind.; two step-sons, Byron Choate, Trigg (County) and Lacy Choate, Christian County, two daughters, Mrs. Earleen Berry, Memphis, Tenn., and Mrs. Charles (Marie) Woods, Hammond, Ind., two stepdaughters, Mrs. Myrtle Dunn, Trigg County, and Mrs. Othell (Lola) Hancock, Christian County,; one brother, Dillard Curtis, Providence, and a half brother. One sister, Mrs. Verna Yager, Moorhouse, Miss.; five half sisters ;and forty grandchildren. First wife, Minnie M. Ledford, mother of William Henry Curtis. Daughter of William Ledford and Matilda Mary Baker Ledford. Minnie died 7-27-1910 and is buried in the Ledford Cemetery 3 miles W. of Pee Dee.
Pallbearers were James Lacy Choate, Byron Choate, Jr., Clarence Choate, James Garner Hancock, Thomas Hancock, and Gene Hancock.
Paternal grandparents,Mickens & Maranda Curtis. Uncle; Alford. Aunts; Nellie, Cyntha, Polly, Alpha, & Frances.
Mrs. Morris Blane Leneave, Jr. was in charge of the flowers.
