Business Magnate, Sports Team Owner. During his proprietorship of the Cleveland Indians the team captured two American League Pennants (1995, 1997), including their first since 1954. Born in Akron, Ohio, he received a degree in business administration from Indiana University upon his service in the United States Army during World War II. In 1955 along with his brother David, he formed the Jacobs Group which would gradually become one of the top real estate developers in the country. In 1986, they purchased the Cleveland Indians. However, the franchise would not bare the fruits of success until the club moved from Cleveland Stadium in 1994 (two years after David's death) to the newly constructed park named Jacobs Field, also known as "The Jake". Among the star players that the team featured included Albert Belle, Manny Ramirez, Jim Thome and Kenny Lofton. In 2001, Jacobs would sell the team.
