He was born at Fairport, a son of Free and Sarah Essex Brewer. He was a life resident of the area.
He first married Barbara Bahr on April 18, 1835 in Canton, Mo. On June 3, 1984, he married Bernice Kirk in Muscatine.
He was a member of the Moose and Eagles lodges and a 45 year member of the AF of L CIO.
He had been employed at Roach & Musser and later Huttig's Mfg. for 28 years, retiring in 1975.
Survivors include his wife, Bernice; two sons, Larry L. Brewer of Olympia, Wash., and Lester L. Brewer of Kansas City, Kan.; four step-sons, Gerald W. Kirk of Wapello, Donald C. Kirk of Muscatine, Larry E. Kirk of Durant, and Albert H. Kirk of Buffalo; two daughters Mrs. John (Donna) McBride of Muscatine, and Mrs. Denzil (Nancy) Fossberg of Grand Island, Neb.; one stepdaughter, Mrs. Richard (Nancy) Hinz of Muscatine; eight grandchildren, 12 step grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; 12 step-great-grandchildren; and one brother, Willam A. Brewer of Salem, Mo.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife in 1983, six brothers, one grandson and one great-grandson.
