Lifelong Sheridann area resident Herbert Vance "Mose" Achenbach, 88, died Sept. 3 of natural causes at Westview Health Care Center.

Born Aug. 25, 1904, near Parkman to Emanuel and Elizabeth Achenbach, he attended Parkman-area schools and married Rachel Koch on Nov. 28, 1940, in Sheridan.

Mr. Achenback retired after 26 1/2 years as an Acme Power Plant engineer for Montana-Dakotaka Utilities. For more than 50 years, he performed with his brothers and sisters in the Achenbach Band in this area.

He belonged to Moose Lodge, Internationl Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, and Church of Christ. Known for his warmth and wit, he enjoyed woodworking, hunting and fishing.

Two sisters and five brothers perceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife of Sheridan; a son, Herbert E. Achenbach, Big Horn; two daughters, Phyllis Mansingh, Palm Bay, Fla., and Twila Johnson, Sheridan; a sister, Nora Maxted, Sheridan; 11 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
services are 2 p.m. Wednesday at Champion Funeral Home, the Rev. Ted Hall officiating, with burial in the Sheridan Muncipal Cemetery.
