On March 21, 1917, Bert Tavelli Ahlstrom was born in Hanna, Wyoming. He graduated from high school there. His parents (mother Mary Tavelli Ahlstrom and father William Ahlstrom), two brothers and sister decided they wanted to go to the Superior, Wyoming mines. Bert graduated at 17 so he couldn't work for the Union Pacific Coal Company. He instead went to the C.C.C. for a year until he joined his father at 18 years of age in the underground mine for the next six years.
Bert married Josephine K. Legerski in Superior and they moved to Sheridan. Bert went to the mine at Monarch for 8 1/2 years.
Clinton Bartlett Construction asked him to work park time which developed into full time and he left the mine for good. However, construction fell off and he decided he made a mistake leaving the mine but soon he went to work for C. Ray Williams Construction. Later, Monarch mine closed, so once again Bert made the right choice.
Bert worked one summer at the supply depot in Ogden, Utah, on construction.. He built his house at 1504 Martin Avenue and lived there ever since.
On March 12, 1955, Bert started work for Joe Fletcher Construction as a carpenter. Soon he was supervising the construction of many Sheridan commercial projects and various homes.
Bert retired May 31, 1980. A trip to Hawaii was presented to Bert and Jo by Fletcher Construction.
