The son of Emanuel [David?] & Sarah (McCleaster) Adams, in 1860 he was a carpenter living with and or working for master carpenter J. P. Brindle in Middlesex Township, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania. He stood 5' 5" tall and had dark hair and blue eyes.

A Civil War veteran, he enlisted in Harrisburg August 25, 1864, mustered into federal service there August 26 as a private with Co. E, 200th Pennsylvania Infantry, and honorably discharged with his company May 30, 1865. He served in the same company as his brother David.

He married Mary Jane Wollet and fathered George Henry (b. 01/05/67), Florence (b. 03/03/75 - married Herbert Martin), and Carrie V. (b. 01/15/81 - married John Enyeart Peterson. Mary Jane died, and he married Mary Ellen Fisher, née Wolf, February 26, 1903. Although he lived in Harrisburg in 1890, he died as shown above from "cardiac asthma & dropsy" with "coronary sclerosis" a contributing factor.
