Sarah Stotts Kennedy was born in KY, the daughter of Solomon McGuire and Susannah Garrett McGuire. She, her first husband and brother John McGuire moved to Wapello Co., Iowa where her husband, John Stotts died. It was in Wapello that she met and married John K. Kennedy. She and John K. had a son, John Henry Kennedy. The family moved to Mahaska Co., Iowa and it was from there she started her trek over the Oregon Trail. Sarah was the midwife of the wagon train and we know of 3 children born on the trip that would have needed her help. Sarah had 3 daughters, Cassie, Sussana, & Margaret who came west as well as all of the Kennedy family.
