Mr. Batson retired from the Onslow County Board of Education after 29 1/2 years of service as a school bus mechanic. He was also a member of the Stump Sound Masonic Lodge #733. After retiring, he enjoyed flounder fishing, gardening, bee keeping, and sharing his goods with others. As a member of Barlow Vista Baptist Church, he served as a deacon, was chairman of the building and grounds and cemetery committees, and was a trustee for many years. He loved his church and serving the Lord. He enjoyed life and people. He had a vast number of friends and neighbors who will miss him dearly. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Mamie Jarman Batson; two daughters, Emily Rochelle and husband, Carl and Nancy Coston and husband, Bill; one son, Ray Batson and wife, Debbie, nine grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Admiral Cruiso and Emily Andrews Batson; sister, Thelma Wray Hardee; two brothers, James F. Batson and Harlee Batson; and granddaughter, Pandora (Pandy) Rochelle.
