DOROTHY LEAVITT

Dorothy Leavitt, 81, passed away Friday, June 5, 2009, after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's Disease.

Her death followed the passing of her late husband, lifelong southern Nevada resident Jack K. Leavitt, four years earlier. She was born Feb. 18, 1928, in Glendale, Calif., to her father, Franklin G. Smith and mother, Florence (Smith) Jones.

Dorothy spent her early years in southern California, where she started high school at Glendale High School. After moving to Las Vegas to join her mother and stepfather, M.H. "Jim" Jones, she attended Las Vegas High School, graduating in 1945.

Dorothy and Jack married June 2, 1945, while Jack was on active duty in the U.S. Army, stationed in northern California. Following the war and Jack's completion of college, the couple returned to Las Vegas.

Dorothy was active in Jack's civil engineering firm as well as his MAI real estate appraisal practice. She managed the couple's blueprint company, Arrow Blueprint, in the late '50's and early '60's.

Dorothy was an accomplished tennis player and enjoyed the frequent hand of bridge.

She is survived by her sons, K. Michael Leavitt (Linda) and Jeffery K. Leavitt; as well as her two grandchildren, Liberty Leavitt-Roberson (Michael) and Chase C. Leavitt.
