Deceased Name: Zella Summers Howells

PARADISE Zella Summers Howells, a life-long resident of Paradise, passed away on Monday, May 15, 2000, one day after her 88th birthday.

She was born May 14, 1912, in Paradise to Edwin Richard and Zelda Shipley Summers.

She married Henry Richman Howells on Dec. 31, 1932. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple.

Zella was a member of the LDS church and has been active in various church positions which include Primary and Relief Society presidents. She was also active in the community and the Cache County 4-H program for many years. Zella was a judge at many county fairs all over the state. She was probably best known, however, for her work as a seamstress and quilt maker. Her quilts have won honors wherever they have been displayed. Zella loved flowers, especially roses and iris. Zella suffered with a heart condition since 1942, but that did not deter her from spending countless hours in her gardens and helping her husband on the farm. She had lived on the same corner for the past 65 years.

She is survived by two sons, Henry Doyle (Linda) Howells, Idaho Falls, Idaho; Richard Kent (Gloria) Howells, Providence; 13 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren; a brother Ross (Janet) Summers, Brigham City; a sister-in-law, Lydia Pulsipher, Ogden; and a brother-in-law, Del (Carol) Howells, Paradise.

Zella was preceded in death by her husband; four brothers, Edwin, Ken, Fred and Lee; and three sisters, Eva, Lavella and Estell.

Funeral services will be held at 12 p.m. on Saturday, May 20, at the Paradise LDS Chapel, 9060 S. 200 West St., with Bishop Guy Ray Pulsipher conducting. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, May 19, at Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 E. Center St. in Logan, and from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the church prior to the service. Burial will be in the Paradise Cemetery.

The family would like to express a special thank you to the nursing staff of the Logan Regional Hospital and Wing 5 of the Sunshine Terrace for their love and care.
