James D. Gregory, son of John and Louisa (Trimble) Gregory. Born in Cardington, Ohio, the father built a carding mill at that place, and the town's name came from the establishment of that mill and the community that built up around it.
In his adult life, Mr. Gregory operated the mill, the Gregory Hotel in Cardington, and was a real estate spectator in Marion.
Married to Annetta Barton Monnett of Bucyrus, Ohio. They were the parents of a daughter, Edna Gregory who died as a child.
The Gregory's were among the first people to own an automobile in Marion County. The couple made news of travelling to Columbus, from Cardington, in 1902 in a trip that lasted four hours over poor roads in existence at the time.
