Interred: 11/28/1949Hamilton Stuart Dollar (he was always called Stuart) was born in 1912 and was named Thomas Francis Gray. In 1913 he was adopted by the childless Mr. and Mrs. A. Melville (and Bessie) Dollar and renamed Hamilton Stuart Dollar. The Dollar's were part of the very wealthy and well known Dollar family that owned at one time several large lumber mills and shipping companies based on the West coast of the United States and in Vancouver, British Columbia(Canada). Stuart's mother Bessie Dollar died of smallpox when in Shanghai, China in 1915 when he was just three years old and his father died suddenly of a heart attack on May 31, 1932 leaving 19 year old Stuart with a very large inheritance allow with his six half siblings from his father's second marriage. Despite this Stuart was unable to find happiness. At the age of 37 he was found dead in a San Pedro, California hotel room on November 24, 1949 of an apparent overdose of sleeping pills. Scrawled on the bathroom mirror in soap was the sad message "Ann I am sorry." Stuart had worked most recently as a pharmacist's mate for the American Pacific Steamship Line.
