William T. Henderson was born in Sangamon County, Illinois to Peter Henderson and Emily Smith Henderson on May 3, 1863. He had one brother, John Henderson, and one sister, Lille Belle Henderson. His father, Peter, was a member of the 14th Illinois Infantry, Company E, in the Civil War. Following his return from the war, after spending a month in a hospital outside of Memphis, Peter and Emily's marriage failed. Emily stayed in Sangamon County with their daughter. Peter took his two sons, William T. and John, to Girard, Kansas where he died June 15, 1870 (per Civil War Pension Files). William T. eventually went to the Kansas City area where and married Nancy Catherine Howard and was married in 1888. William and Nancy (aka "Kate") had at least nine children: Ora, who died at 2 years of age, Calvin, Archie, Charles, Cora, Myrtle, Albert, Ray, and Earl. He was a stonemason, and passed this art to his son, Albert. Much of William's craft can be seen in the stonework at Country Club Plaza, Kansas City, and many other places in the Kansas City area. At the time of his death, his residence is listed as the home of his son, Albert in Kansas City, Missouri.
