ADELINE MARIE BENSON 93 longtime resident of Fremont, CA, passed away October 22, 2006, at the home of her daughter, Janis LaFar in Gilbert, Arizona. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Benson, in 1988. Adeline is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Janis and George LaFar of Gilbert, Arizona; son and daughter-in-law, Roger and Terri Benson of Fremont, CA; two grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, 2 sisters, as well as many loving cousins, nieces and nephews. Adeline was born February 26, 1913, at home in the Township of Shible, Minnesota, and was the oldest of 4 siblings. At the age of 5, her father passed away due to the Great Flu Epidemic in 1918. Her mother Anna, singly raised the 4 children and kept food on the table by working at a rug making factory, doing ironing and sewing for people, and also renting out a room in her home. Adeline and Larry were married September 11, 1937 in Minneapolis and later moved to New Jersey, before being transferred to California and settling in Fremont in 1955. Adeline lived a very fulfilling life, caring for family, and was involved in many activities and organizations. She was a charter member of the Washington Hospital Service League, organist for Christ the King Lutheran Church, director/pianist for Fremont Mother Singers, pianist for children's choir at Centerville Presbyterian Church, and played for many other functions where a pianist or organist was needed. Adeline even found time to play in several bridge groups, antique club, bible study, and she loved cooking, sewing, and gardening. Adeline valued her many friendship throughout her lifetime. Memorial services will take place on Friday, October 27, 11:00 a.m. at Centerville Presbyterian Church, 4360 Central Avenue, Fremont, CA 94536. A private grave site service will take place at Chapel of the Chimes. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to the church.
