Edith F. Birchler, 83, of Terre Haute, died Saturday, May 16, 2009, at Terre Haute Regional Hospital. She was born March 5, 1926, in Thackery, Ill., to Major and Laura Rhodes. She married Jacob C. Birchler, and he preceded her in death in 1988. Survivors include her brother, Stanley and wife Bonnie Rhodes of Germantown Tenn.; sister-in-law, Frieda Rhodes of Franklin Tenn.; several nieces and nephews; stepgrandchildren; and dear friends, Mildred Moore, Dawn Enochs, and Barbara Hardesty. She also was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Bill Rhodes; sisters, Hazel Prince and Doris Davenport. Visitation is 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at DeBaun Springhill Chapel, 85 E. Springhill Drive, with funeral services to begin at 11 a.m., with Father Joe Wade officiating. Burial is in Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, those who wish can make donations in Edith's honor to the Catholic Soup Kitchen, with envelopes provided at the funeral home.
