Born January 8, 1922, in Orbisonia, he was the son of John and Bessie (Wilson) Shope.
Surviving are the following children, all of Huntingdon: Larry J. Shope, Donald E. Shope, Terry W. Shope, Jerry W. Shope, Mrs. R. Scott (Rhonda) Merrell, Barry L. Shope and Mark W. Shope. A daughter, Darlene, preceded him in death. There are eight grandchildren.
Also surviving are the following brothers and sisters: Walter Shope, Mrs. Thelma Houpt, Mrs. David (Dorothy) Hawn, Mrs. James (Marjorie) Kyle, and Mrs. Shade (Hazel) Heffner, all of Huntingdon, and George Shope of Pittsburgh. One brother, Howard, preceded him in death.
Of the Protestant faith, Mr. Shope had attended the Roadside Chapel of Huntingdon. He was a member of the V.F.W. Standing Stone Post No. 1754 Home Association; the Frank P. Hommon American Legion Post No. 24 Home Association; and the Number 1 Fire Company, Huntingdon; and had been a member of the Huntingdon Fire Police.
Funeral services will be held Friday, June 20, at 2 p.m. in the Robert E. Peters Funeral Home, Huntingdon, with the Rev. Amos Hommel officiating. Interment will be in the Jordan Cemetery, Orbisonia R.D. Friends will be received at the funeral home after 7 p.m. Thursday and from 9 a.m. until the hour of services Friday.
