BROWNHELM

Cyrus Loresso Whittlesey died at his home in Brownhelm, Ohio March 16, after a brief illness following several months of declining health. He was the son of Solomon and Sarah Whittlesey, and was born August 8, 1831, in the home where his death occurred and where his entire life with the exception of a few years was passed. At the outbreak of the Civil War, he enlisted in Company K, Twenty-third O. V. I.; and after three years of faithful service, was honorably discharged July 8, 1864.

On February 16, 1869 he married Miss Lucy A. Bacon, of Brownhelm, who died January 27, 1899.

In every circumstance both of his private and public life, he showed his sterling qualities which made him the loyal citizen and soldier. His life being almost wholly spent in Brownhelm he became closely identified with its most esteemed citizens. For many years he had been connected with the Congregational church, being one of its most valued members and staunch supporters. One son, Hayes B. and adopted daughter, Mrs. Newton Hollstein, survive him. He was buried in the Brownhelm cemetery, veterans of Elyria G. A. R., of which he was a member, assisting in carrying him to his last resting place.
