JAMES COON STROUD
James Coon Stroud, son of James G. and Elmira Stroud, was born November 5, 1877, in Princeton, Mo., and passed away January 17, 1939, at the Yokum hospital in Chariton, Ia. at the age of 61 years, 2 months and 12 days.
Mr. Stroud came to Chariton with his parents 60 years ago, and has been a resident of this city since that time. He was united in marriage here to Bertha Homsher, and to this union were born three sons, all of them living. His father, James G. Stroud, and one brother, Delbert, preceded him in death. James had been in ill health for about a year.
James Coon Stroud was a good citizen in every sense of the word, honest and upright in all his dealings. He cared for his mother, now 95 years of age, with whom he made his home, with a tender devotion. He was ever kind to others and thoughful of those about him and a splendid neighbor, and will be greatly missed in the home and the community.
Those left to mourn his passing are his mother; one brother, Roy Stroud of Omaha, Nebr.; and one sister, Mrs. D. L. Barnett, of Chariton; his three sons, Delbert of Chariton, and Pat and Richard of Los Angeles, Calif.; and four grandchildren, besides a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services, conducted by Rev. Donald McKay, of the Christian church, were held Thursday afternoon at two o'clock at the Downs funeral home, and burial was in the Chariton cemetery.
