FATHER OF 4 KILLEd IN CAR-TRUCK CRASH
Collision Occurs On East River Rd.
Merlin W. Champnoise, 26, Hufford Rd., died at 7:15 last night in Perrysburg Hospital of injuries suffered earlier in the day when his car and a fuel oil truck collided head-on on East River Rd. at Bates Rd.
He suffered a skull fracture, head, chest, leg and internal injuries. The truck driver, John Ten Eyck, Jr., 32, of 1320 Jackson St., suffered bruises and shock. Mr. Champnoise was going to work at The Blade where he had been employed for a year and a half as an apprentice pressman.
Born in Whitehouse, Mr. Champnoise had lived in Perrysburg 17 years. He had attended schools in both communities. Previous to his employement at The Blade, Mr. Champnoise had worked at the Larrowe Division of General Mills, Inc., Rossford, and at the Rossford plant of Libbey-Owens-Ford Glass Co. He served in the army as a medical technician in the European theater during World War II.
Surviving are his wife, betty Marie; daughters, Cheryl, 6, Betty Jill, 5, and Rebecca, 3; a son, Leaonrd, 1; parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Champnoise, Perrysburg, and a sister, Mrs. Irene Ostofi, Perrysburg.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at the Witzler Mortuary, Perrysburg. Burial will be in Fort Meigs Cemetery.
