The picture above is from the "History of Gallia County" 1882 reprinted 1976 in the Guyan Township section even though Joseph and his family lived in Mason Township of Lawrence County Ohio, nearby.
Joseph's father William Sanders was one of the three Sanders brothers, William, Jacob and Jesse who moved to Ohio from Virginia in 1835, before the USA Civil War. Some of his sons changed their last names to "Saunders" including my Great Grandfather, Joseph Walter Saunders, "Watty".
