Mr. John H. Williams, 88 years of age, died Friday, 7 November 1924, after a lingering battle with influenza. Mr. Williams died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Maybelle Williams Elliot of the Bethel community of De Soto Parish, east of Logansport. Funeral services were conducted by Reverend Daniel Brown Register, and interment made in the Williams family cemetery on the property of his home.

He was survived by three sons, Duke, El[mo], and Arnett, and two daughters, Mesdames Elliot (Rube) and Minnie Lee Williams Railey (Jim), all of Bethel.

He was a pioneer of DeSoto Parish who lived in the Bethel community since at least 1860, when he married the former Amanda Henry, who predeceased him. Williams migrated to De Soto Parish from the Warrior District of Bibb County, Georgia, near Macon. Many other families followed the same migratory path, including Railey, Mosely, and Tidwell, among others.

Based in part on a obituary originally published in the now defunct Interstate Progress newspaper.
