Gerald F. Smith, 74, Minneapolis, KS died Monday, June 7, 1999, at Cherry County Hospital, Valentine, NE.

Mr. Smith was born July 8, 1924 at Beverly, KS and was a resident of Minneapolis, KS since 1964, moving from Beverly. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a road foreman for the Ottawa County Highway Department, retiring in 1985. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Minneapolis.

His wife, Patricia (Boucek) Smith died in 1997.
Survivors include two daughters, Diana Douglas of Slidell, LA (now living in Minneapolis) and Debra Grey of Valentine, NE.; Three grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, the Rev. Ken Lohrmeyer officiating. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Minneapolis, KS.

A vigil will be at 7:30 p.m. today at Shields Funeral Home, 405 Argyle, Minneapolis.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society. Visitation will be today at the funeral home and before the service Firday at the church.
