Frank was killed along with Bill Neapolitan. Farmer and Neapolitan were battling it out in a qualifying heat in the first program at Woodbridge since the track was rebuilt from aboard track to a semi-asphalt bowl. The crowd was cheering Farmer wildly as he jockeyed dangerously close at the rear of Neapolitan. He was trying to pass, but Neapolitan held stubbornly to the lead. Finally, with a burst of speed that brought the crowd to its feet, Farmer shot his car Inside of Neapolitan's on the banked tun. The two machines came together with a grinding crash.

Frank had three Indianapolis 500 starts in his career being retired all three times with his best finish in 1929 at fourteenth and ran a total of 241 laps in his Indy career. His best finish in his ten championship events was a third in the June 1930 race at Altoona, PA.

Frank's fatal accident happened in the same car Ray Keech was killed in two years earlier.
