Ruby Birks Loberg, 86, of Nampa, passed away on Monday, Oct. 18, 2004, at a Nampa hospital. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday Oct. 20, at the Nampa 1st Ward LDS Church, 18463 Northside Blvd. Nampa. Burial will follow in the Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, Caldwell. A viewing will be held at the Nampa Funeral Home Yraguen Chapel 415 12th Ave. S. Nampa today, Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. and the church on Wednesday from 10 to 10:45 a.m. prior to services.
Ruby was born on June 11, 1918 in Emmett, the daughter of Minnie Maude Whipple Birks and Orval E. Birks. Ruby was the oldest of 10 children. When she was 6 years old, they moved to Melba. Ruby attended grade school and high school there. Later, the family moved to Nampa and Ruby went to California to work as an nanny for several years.
During WWII she worked for the Pullman Railroad in Oakland, CA. Later she moved back to Nampa to be close to her family. That's where she met her husband, Oliver. They were later married in Winnemucca, Nev.
Ruby was active in the school PTA when the children were younger and was a member of the Nampa 1st Ward, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was a stay at home mother and was proud of her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by five daughters, Kathy Plaster of Orem, UT, Wanda McGuire (John) of Nampa, Donna Tracy (Chris) of Meridian, Jerrie Dean of Kennewick, WA and Gail Dillman (Eric) of Portland, OR; a son, David Loberg of Nampa; 42 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; four sisters, Rosella Moore of Nampa, Della Bourse (Marcell) of Salt Lake City, Verda Chess of Louisville, KY, and Ila Henne of Salt Lake City; three brothers, Jay Birks (Glenys) of Sandy, UT and Boyd Birks (Deanne) of Wood Cross, UT and Clarence Birks of Eureka, CA and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Albert and Howard, her husband, Oliver, a granddaughter, Nancy Cooper and a son in law. Wade Plaster.
The family would like to thank Mercy Medical Center and their doctors for their loving care of our mother and also Karcher Estates Retirement Center.
